Rehacom software description
RehaCom is a software package with which you can focus on the different cognitive areas you want to train for cognitive rehabilitation. You can work on attention, memory, logical thinking, visuomotor skills or reactive ability in a motivating and efficient way. Build your own training module! With its ergonomically designed input panel and training programs that adapt to the progress made, clients find the system enjoyable and encouraging to use.
Modular design
RehaCom is a software package that, with the relevant theory in mind, focuses on training different cognitive abilities. The initially simple tasks become progressively more complex. Procedures have been developed for training the following skills, covering the range of disorders that commonly result from brain injury: attention, memory, logical thinking, spatial perception, reactive behaviour, visuomotor coordination, visuoconstructive skills and problem-solving. Tools are also available for saccadic eye movement and visual field training.
Individualizable programs with adaptive difficulty level
The procedures are administered and controlled by computer, enabling each patient to follow an individual tailor-made program. A good training program covers different aspects or dimensions and offers a range of difficulty levels for each dimension. At each difficulty level there are sufficient tasks available to ensure that the patient is only presented with ones appropriate to his current ability. Concrete error-specific feedback reinforces the learning process and helps the client develop useful strategies.
Continuity and progress tracking
Within each procedure appropriate data is recorded; this ensures that training is a continuous process. The data is used to initiate changes in difficulty level and to provide feedback on performance. The saving of training results ensures continuity over a series of sessions. A new session continues at the same level of difficulty as the previous one. This principle governs the whole intervention process. The data can be used to monitor the treatment goal and adjust it if necessary.
Performance feedback
While he is working the patient receives information on the standard of his performance, either via a simple on-screen display or via acoustic signals. In addition, a message informs him of the new difficulty level when this level changes. This is often accompanied by a summary of the errors made in the task that has just been completed. Helpful comments are also provided in a variety of ways. These comments may relate to the need for further practice or to the particular aspects of training on which the patient should focus.
Efficiency and economy
The training procedures are designed to enable the client to train on his own most of the time. The computer provides the necessary instructions as well as positive reinforcement messages. The presence of the therapist is, however, required at the start of training in order to help the client define the training goal, assess his emotional and motivational state and identify his initial performance level. The therapist should also be available at the end of each session in order to discuss the results and any difficulties or problems that have arisen.
